Term 2 Connected Learning

This term the Big Question is ‘Conflict and Resolution: Is it ever right to fight?’.

Our key texts in English are stories written by Oscar Wilde such as ‘The Happy Prince’ and ‘The Selfish Giant’. We will be identifying the use of formal vocabulary as well as archaic language and creating our own descriptive narratives. In grammar, there will be a focus on using passive verbs and

semicolons to further assist the structures of our writing. The outcome will be writing narrative texts inspired by these stories.

In Maths, we will begin work on fractions.  This will include recognising and comparing fractions, including those with different denominators. We will be learning to relationships between numerators and denominators. We will also be using our four operations to add, subtract, divide and multiply fractions.

The History topic continues from term 1, WW2. This term the focus is on how the war affected the people in Britain on the Home Front. It will look at the Blitz and understand how this impacted on the local area.

In RE, the big question is ‘What would Jesus do’. This will look at the Gospel texts and understand why they were written. Children will explain the meaning of the stories Jesus told and suggest what Christians can take from the stories in life today. As the term moves closer to Christmas we will also be looking at Incarnation, God coming to Earth as a human. The children will study the Christmas story with a focus on the idea of Jesus being a refugee.

In Science, the topic of study is ‘Animals including Humans’. The children will explore the function and parts of the circulatory system and the function of the heart blood vessels and blood. They will also understand the importance of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the body.

Home Learning

Every Friday children will receive a piece of English and Maths homework to complete by the following Friday - it will always be what they have learnt that week and therefore should be able to be completed independently. We provide this homework so that children can consolidate their learning in the hopes this will enable them to retain the information/process for longer.
